Head Coach Bob Hawkey
Bob Hawkey started the Valley Stream Green Hornets Youth Football in 1950. He was the Head Coach of the Varsity Team from 1950 up until 2009.
Bob passed away on December 19, 2009, and since that time no other youth football coach in the country has had as many years as a head coach or as many victories as Coach Hawkey. He won more than 500 games and taught thousands of young men not only the game of football but, high standards in sportsmanship, work ethic and character.
He was a caring, loyal, modest, compassionate and competitive individual who leaves a legacy that will be rarely matched on or off the field.

Building a Community Tradition: As the Green Hornets grew, so did Bob's impact on the community. His coaching style went beyond the football field; he became a mentor and father figure to many young men. Through the ups and downs, victories and defeats, the Green Hornets became a symbol of unity and pride for Valley Stream.
59 Years of Dedication: Bob Hawkey's commitment to coaching was unparalleled. For 59 years, he poured his heart and soul into the Green Hornets, shaping generations of young athletes. His unwavering dedication earned him the respect and admiration of not just his players but the entire community.
Passing the Torch In 2009, the Valley Stream Green Hornets faced a devastating loss – the untimely death of Bob Hawkey. The town mourned the loss of a beloved coach, but his legacy endured. Bob's son, Bobby Hawkey, who had coached alongside his father for years, stepped up to continue the tradition as the new head coach.
Honoring a Legend: Valley Stream couldn't let Bob Hawkey's legacy fade away. In a heartfelt tribute, the town decided to name the football field after him. The Bob Hawkey Football Field became a place where memories of triumphs, life lessons, and the spirit of the Green Hornets lived on.
Bobby Hawkey's Leadership: Bobby Hawkey faced the challenge of filling his father's shoes as the head coach. Guided by the lessons he learned from Bob, Bobby led the Green Hornets with the same passion and commitment. The team continued to thrive, building upon the foundation laid by the legendary Bob Hawkey. To this day the Green Hornets are one of the most Elite Football Programs on Long Island.

Coach Hawkey was one of the founding members back in 1950.
He served as Head Coach of the Valley Stream Green Hornets Varsity from 1950 to 2009.
